To create our own master slide, open Impress again and don’t select a template object. In front of you, you see an empty presentation again. Open the slide master as you learned in the last step.
A normal text slide
For starters, let’s start by designing regular content pages. To do this, you need an image that reflects the topic of your presentation.
Select a rectangle and drag it over the entire surface of the slide. In the right selection area, remove the line and select a neutral color as the fill that matches your chosen image. Set the rectangle to the background.
Select a rectangle again and position it in the area of the title as shown in the image on the right. Choose another color with strong contrast to the first color and remove the line. Click on “Arrangement” and set the rectangle “further back”.
Depending on your color choice, you will now need to adjust the font color of the headline and text. In my case, the narrow heading bar is black, so the black font is unreadable. Click in the title text box and choose a suitable font color in the right bar. Do the same for the outline text if necessary. In addition, you can adjust the text box to the size of the bar.
Now paste the selected image. Make it smaller so that it fits snugly between the bars and the right edge. To do this, right-click on the image and select “Crop”. Alternatively, you can select the Crop icon in the top bar.
For a more upbeat design, you can add lines and create a corner for the image.
In pictures 2 and 3 you can see additional features. Instead of a simple color, you can also choose a gradient to fill the rectangles. Can you find the feature yourself?
In addition, instead of a rectangle, you can also choose a rounded rectangle or a completely different shape under “Standard Shapes”.
More Master Slides
Impress’s master slides typically consist of 1-3 slides. Underneath is usually a title and content slide. For more professional templates, around 15 master slides are integrated, which are tailored to specific needs. For example, there are slides specifically for outlines, transition slides that introduce a new chapter, slides for quotes, images, and other media, each with its own design.
It makes sense to add a title slide and a blank slide. The creation of additional slides depends on the needs and can be adapted spontaneously and quickly.
Insertion of the title slide
Insert a new master slide. In the previous lesson, you already created a title slide design. Copy and paste the design into the master. Make sure that you arrange the text boxes to match the title slide and that everything is set in the background in the right order.
To match this design are the following title slides:
Inspirations for further designs
Master slide design for citations and longer texts
Master slide design for outline
Master Foil Design for Transition Foils
Can you figure out on your own how these designs are created?
Congratulations!
Now you are no longer at the mercy of the already given templates,
but you can create your own design.
